ABOUT

Call her Sarah, call her Jezebel, call her Sarah Jezebel—it all works. Sarah Jezebel is a multidisciplinary artist and practicing witch living in NYC with a background in witchcraft, ceremonial magic, Thelemic, and planetary magics. She is a Mama Ndenge in Quimbanda de Angola serving as a Makota with Cabula Mavile Kitula kia Njila in the Hudson Valley, where she helps support the temple and community under Tata Apokan Kilombe wa Lwenzi, Jesse Hathaway Diaz.

She is the sorceress and head chandler of Lovi Artes, an intentionally crafted candle company that seeks to cultivate one’s inner fire through the art of wax, scent, and flame. Her work lives in the space between object and offering and can be found at www.loviartes.com

Much of Sarah’s artistic work explores the ephemeral nature of liminality through the interactions of time, place, objects, and moments. At the height of the pandemic, she released a photo set based on Vanitas, a genre of 17th-century Dutch still life painting that explores the inherent complexities of the fleeting nature of life. As a photographer, Sarah is obsessed with the intensity of chiaroscuro, drawn to the shadows and contrast. Her Instagram account, all our own graveyards is her ode to her love for cemeteries and the omnipresence of death.

Sarah Jezebel is one half founder of Red Witch Production Co. and the entertainment coordinator for the Salem Witchcraft and Folklore Festival, where she produces the Black Cat Cabaret. She has produced gatherings across Salem, Boston, New York City, and upstate New York, including full moon ceremonies and solstice and equinox celebrations at CoSM (the Chapel of Sacred Mirrors), alongside additional projects such as OCCULT Salon, SVB ROSA ritual dance, and SWID.

Movement remains central to Sarah’s practice. She spent a decade as a professional fusion belly dance teacher and dancer. Prior to that she performed in fetish and burlesque shows. She taught weekly for eight years across Boston, upstate New York, and New York City, and has performed live with HuDost, Copal, Raquy and the Cavemen, Boom Boom Shake, and Incus. She is also featured in instructional works including Sera Solstice’s Lunar Bellydance, Solar Bellydance, and East Coast Tribal Foundations, available through World Dance New York.
